Spinal Decompression Tables

Hey everyone, Dr. David Writus here at Freedom Family Chiropractic in Weston and I wanted to go over our spinal decompression tables. We have three of
0:088 secondsthese tables in the office. We get amazing results with them. Patients absolutely love them and I’m going to go over a couple of the features of the table and why we would use a
0:1616 secondsdecompression table on a patient. So when someone comes in with neck pain, back pain, shooting pain down the leg or
0:2424 secondsnumbness and tingling, shooting pain down the arm and numbness and tingling, a migraine headache, uh some kind of neurological issue that’s going on. A
0:3232 secondslot of the times what’s happening is there’s compression on the disc and possibly a disc bulge or a herniation that’s putting pressure on the nerve
0:4040 secondscausing a lot of these symptoms. when we take an X-ray or if we have to send a patient out for an MRI, this is going to validate our reasoning of why we put
0:4949 secondssomeone on a decompression table. And what’s happening with a lot of these people is the disc space here is starting to narrow. The disc is starting
0:5959 secondsto get crushed by the vertebrae and the nerves are also have pressure on them from the disc that are popping out and that’s where we would have a herniation
1:071 minute, 7 secondsor what we would call a disc bulge. And so the goal of the decompression table is to take pressure off of the discs and the nerves to get the nerve flow running
1:161 minute, 16 secondsbetter and to get the spine working better so we have less of these symptoms. And what the decompression really table really does is it’s a
1:241 minute, 24 secondscontract relax cycle. So it’s going to pull a little bit on either the neck or the lower back. It’s going to pull and then
1:331 minute, 33 secondsit’s going to relax. And what this does over time is it creates space for the disc to actually regenerate and heal,
1:401 minute, 40 secondsfor oxygen and nutrients to go to the disc. So it can provide more cushioning to the vertebrae and take pressure off the nerve. So we have better nerve flow
1:481 minute, 48 secondsand ultimately better communication from the brain to the body, the muscles, the ligaments, the joints, tendons, nerves, glands, everything is going to work
1:571 minute, 57 secondsbetter when we have better nervous system function. And so I want to show you a couple of the features of the spinal decompression table. So Ashley, if you just want to come over here. And
2:052 minutes, 5 secondsso right now our table here is set up for somebody’s lumbar spine, their low back. And what we would do is you see
2:122 minutes, 12 secondsthe spine here. We would strap somebody in like this. We strap the belt around their waist. We take our hook here. We’d
2:212 minutes, 21 secondshook it in. And then our cord or our rope comes out. We attach it to here. We
2:292 minutes, 29 secondshave that nice and tight. And then this is going to pull slightly. Like I said, contracting and relaxing. And so this is what we call for our lumbar or our low
2:372 minutes, 37 secondsback setting. We also have a setting for the cervical spine, which is going to be a little bit reverse. So we have a head
2:442 minutes, 44 secondspiece here. We would put into the machine. Okay. Just like this. We have someone
2:522 minutes, 52 secondsuh laying this way. So neck would go in here. We have our strap here that would fit over their head. Okay? And then their feet would be at this end. So
3:013 minutes, 1 secondthese straps would be cleared off the table. And same principle, we have our rope connected here.
3:083 minutes, 8 secondsPulling a nice contract and relax cycle.
3:113 minutes, 11 secondsAnd if you just want I’m going to get close to this so you can see. So for the neck, we’d have nice contract on the disc like this and relaxing. In the low
3:193 minutes, 19 secondsback, same thing. We have our discs here and we’re going to pull so they open up and then contract nice and easy. And so
3:273 minutes, 27 secondswhen we set the settings on the decompression table, we have specific settings for each patient. We set a certain number of pounds. Okay, so
3:363 minutes, 36 secondsweight and poundage. We start them on the lighter side and then as they gradually go through care, we’re going to up that poundage and the pull rate
3:453 minutes, 45 secondsand the frequency and how the machine is actually working with the patient’s spine. And so actually, if you come over here, I want to show you some specific
3:523 minutes, 52 secondsprotocols we have. So we have our screen here and we have our settings, right? We use cervical and lumbar. So if we go to
4:004 minutesthe cervical here, we have a week 1 through 4 protocol and we can individualize it and customize it for each patient. So you see here, this is
4:084 minutes, 8 secondsabout 20 lbs of pull. But if I want to change it, I can just go in nice and easy and I can put it down to 15. I can
4:154 minutes, 15 secondsput it down into 10 to 10, which we’ll do here. I can also put it down even lower if I want. And these are sometimes
4:224 minutes, 22 secondsyou have to start people really really low and then build them up nice and slow. We also have same thing for the lumbar
4:324 minutes, 32 secondshere. Okay, lumbar. And again we one to four. These we would start off excuse me at a much higher rate. So this one is
4:394 minutes, 39 secondsour week 2 protocol. We start at 15 minutes and then you know this sometimes we veer off course where instead of 60
4:464 minutes, 46 secondspounds I might set it for 65 with someone and we usually do a 20 lb difference. So what this is saying is the maximum level of pull would be 65.
4:564 minutes, 56 secondsThe minimum level of pull would be 45 and that’s how the machine would work for this patient over that 15minute
5:025 minutes, 2 secondsduration. Let me back up Ashley. And so again these are our spinal decompression tables. are great for anyone with a disc
5:095 minutes, 9 secondsinjury, degenerated spine, uh a bulging disc, any kind of radiating pain down the legs or the hands or a migraine headache. We get amazing results.
5:185 minutes, 18 secondsPatients really love them. And if you have any questions about decompression, just give us our office a call or send us a message and we’d be happy to discuss these with you. And we look forward to seeing you at the office.
